Downloading Engine Logs From Avionics

The Flight Data Logging feature in the Cirrus Perspective avionics stores automatically critical flight and engine data on an SD data card (up to 16GB) inserted into the top card slot of the MFD. Approximately 1,000 flight hours can be recorded for each 1GB of available space on the card.

Data is written to the SD card once each second while the MFD is powered on. All flight data logged on a specific date is stored in a .csv file named in a format which includes that date: log_YYMMDD_HHMMSS_KIXD.csv where KIXD is the nearest airport (a blank will be inserted if no airport is found)

The file is created automatically each time the Perspective system is powered on, provided an SD card has been inserted.

The status of the Flight Data Logging feature can be viewed on the AUX-UTILITY Page. If no SD card has been inserted, “NO CARD” is displayed. When data is being written to the SD card, “LOGGING DATA” is displayed.

To bring data to your PC turn off power to the Perspective and remove SD card. Now you can copy the files to an appropriate location on your PC.


AVIDYNE ENTEGRA EX5000

For EX5000 users only, EMAXTM Total Engine Management is a feature that might be available for your aircraft as part of your MFD package or as an option.

EMAX provides a number of features, including real-time recording of time, position, and critical engine performance parameters. This feature records data for the last 100 hours of flight. The information is recorded every six seconds whenever the MFD is operating.

The output, which you can download via the MFD data port, is in the following files: An ASCII text file (.log) contains the engine performance data. A Jeppesen Track file (.txt) contains position data that is compatible with Jeppesen FliteStar.

For our Flightspace flight log analysis we need .log files only. This file will appear in the following format: Engine_ YYMMDD_HHMMSS_out.log

You can download the engine log files from EX5000 using either a Zip Drive and Zip disk or if you have Entegra Release 6 or newer a USB Flash Memory Drive may be used.

Procedure to download the stored engine data log files:

  1. Turn power OFF to the EX5000 MFD.
  2. If using a Zip Drive Data Loader, install compatible blank disk into the Data Loader drive.
  3. Connect the USB Flash Drive or one end of the interconnect cable to the Data Loader and the other end to the EX5000 MFD data port on the front panel.
  4. Turn on power to the EX5000.
  5. The Data Log Transfer screen is displayed.
  6. To begin the download, press the “Proceed” button. Do not turn off the EX5000 or disconnect the cable or USB device during data transfer.
  7. The data transfer is complete when disk is automatically ejected from the Data Loader drive and the “Press Any Bezel Key” message is displayed. When the data transfer is complete the regular start screen displays.
  8. At this point, turn off power to the EX5000, remove your USB device or Zip Drive, and then turn the avionics power back on. This step ensures that all data has been checked in self-test and the MFD is ready for use.
  9. You can now bring the Zip Drive or USB device to your PC and download data.

IMPORTANT: Your Zip Disk or USB drive must be in “FAT” format. If you have portable media that is formatted as “FAT 32”, you must reformat it.
Avidyne recommends using a USB 2.0 Flash Memory drive with a size od 128 MB, 256 MB or 512 MB. Use of a 1 GB USB Flash Memory drive or larger is not recommended for data downloads.
